The Village at Mammoth is a pedestrian friendly walking village within Mammoth Lakes. “The Village”, as it is more commonly known, consists of three buildings constructed around an events plaza and walking corridors. Each building has shopping, restaurants and other animation along its ground floor and four floors of residential condominiums on its upper floors. The three buildings within the main Village are White Mountain Lodge, Lincoln House, and Grand Sierra Lodge. The complex has a variety of configurations ranging from studios, one bedroom, two bedroom, and three bedroom floor plans.
The residential condominiums are often rented out on a nightly basis making the village very convenient for visitors as well as full time residents. Adding to the convenience is the Village Area Gondola, a ski gondola connecting the Village at Mammoth to Mammoth Mountain Ski Area’s Canyon Lodge. While the primary purpose of the gondola may be to deliver skiers to and from the Village, it is also used from time-to-time for general transportation… particularly during special events.
Public Transportation is a key element for the Village at Mammoth as it brings visitors, employees, and the general public to and from other parts of Mammoth Lakes. With two trolley stops located on Canyon Blvd., and one stop on Minaret Road, the Village is a hub to the rest of the community. In summer, many of the trolleys tow bicycle racks, bringing riders to either the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area’s Bike Park, or the Lakes Basin (Lake Mary, Lake George, Twin Lakes, Horseshoe Lakes and others).
The northern edge of the Village at Mammoth is a termination point for skiers and snowboarders looking to ski/ride back from the slopes. This is commonly known as the ski-back trail and is also used in the summer months for bicycles. Although bikes can use the ski-back trail, there is a more formalized bike system with a start and stop point at the corner of Minaret Road and Forest Trail. These trails are better known as “uptown” and “downtown” appropriately named for the direction one is biking.
The Village is also a focal point for many of the special events held in Mammoth Lakes. The Village as an open plaza, built in stage, public transportation and other features make the village the ideal for concerts and festivals.
