Gold Prospecting: The real gold found was in the journey!

Many people have the perception that Mammoth Lakes is far from everything because it is 5-hour drive from Los Angeles. Well, if you are an outdoor enthusiast, Mammoth is actually close to everything; Hiking, climbing, fishing, hunting, photography and even… Gold Prospecting. My brother and I set out for a little weekend journey in the dead of winter:

Here is a little clip of my brother and I prospecting in the California desert.

Camping in the desert is a great time because it allowed us to escape the snow for a couple of days and journey to warmer weather, all while doing something we really enjoy. Here we have our chairs set up for the evening, about ready to start cooking dinner:

The sunsets in the desert are always a beautiful. It looked pretty windy but in fact there was just a warm breeze; It as a nice way to top off a day of working hard.
Lenticular clouds over the desert. While I love getting away for a camping trip, I also love coming home especially when its this pretty. Here is a shot we took just outside of Bishop, California.
