Looking for something new in Mammoth Lakes?

Last week I went to the new 53 Restaurant – Kitchen and Cocktails in the Village at Mammoth Lakes. It was as soft opening so needless to say nothing was expected to be perfect, but I have to be honest… things ran very smooth and the new $500,000 makeover looks great. Lehman & Raimondo at 53
The Bar area has more of a lounge feel to it versus the night club I expected. The dining area on the north side of the restaurant has a casual atmosphere that will cater well to breakfast, lunch and dinner. At the rear of the bar area a local bluegrass band entertained guests with a number of familiar tunes.

For the soft opening my friends and I were greeted at the door with a coat check and some very unique cocktails. The cocktails were originals to the bar and at first sight I was expecting the drinks to be excessively sweet, but as it turned out they had more of a sweet and sour flavor. They were good, but I was looking for a vodka and soda.

The staff was friendly and brought around a variety of food samplings while we tasted the first round of unique drinks. My top four favorites were:
- Sloppy road pork sliders
- Cheeseburger Sliders
- Avocado toast
- Tater Tot grilled cheese
- Chicken and waffle sliders
For the main dinner we sat in the north part of the restaurant and sampled miniature pot pies, salmon, prime rib, and a breakfast sample of chilaquiles. Dessert was an ice cream with bread pudding and a deep fried Oreo with ice cream.
The interior of 53 had displayed a number of interesting facts referencing the number 53, including the fact that 1953 was Mammoth Mountain Ski Area’s birth year.
