Yosemite National Park and Mammoth Lakes are the two main reasons I live in the Eastern Sierras.
If you live in Mammoth Lakes its pretty safe to say you love the outdoors and all Mother Nature has to offer. Waking up to views of the Sherwin Mountains or the Sierra Nevada range makes it difficult to believe a change of scenery can offer much more beauty.

With the early opening of Highway 120 into Yosemite, I decided to take a day trip into Yosemite Valley last Sunday with a friend of mine. We were looking for a few hours away from the phones and an excuse to visit the valley floor of Yosemite. We left Mammoth Lakes around 6:00am and stopped for coffee at the Mobile Mart at the eastern entrance to the park. By 8:30 we were sitting down in the Ahwahnee Lodge having breakfast and planning a short walk around the valley floor. Although the breakfast set each of us back about $25 it was well worth it.
After breakfast we took the local shuttle 5 minutes up the road to Yosemite Falls, one of the most spectacular waterfalls I’ve ever seen. Because its early in the spring season, we were able to capture it while at full flow. This year I only walked up to the tourist area to take a few pictures, but in years past a group of friends and I adventured up to the upper part of the falls in order to capture the real majesty of this site.

After a quick tour around the valley floor we decided to head back home to Mammoth Lakes, stopping at the roadside site to snap a few pictures. By 3:00 we were back in Mammoth.
Yosemite National Park is only one of many reasons to call Mammoth Lakes home.
